Hilary didn’t start out with the intention of publishing her photographs. But when she sold her first freelance travel piece--a feature about New Orleans cemeteries--to The Globe and Mail early in 1998, she learned a valuable lesson. The newspaper paid almost as much for a snapshot from her disposable camera as they did for the 750 words of “Death Takes a Holiday.” Hilary did the math and decided that a real camera would be a good investment.
